Abstract

A study of certain ocular dimensions in index patients with open angle glaucoma and in their first degree relatives (siblings and offspring) is described. The value obtained for each dimension in each index patient or relative was compared with the corresponding value obtained for a normal subject of similar age, sex, and refractive error. Two dimensions were found to differ significantly from the normal in the index patients and their siblings but not in the offspring; these were anterior chamber depth and lens thickness. The possible means of genetic transmission for these dimensions is considered and related to the suggested modes of inheritance for open angle glaucoma.
